Reports & Info
The Ambush season is ON! Bait has shown up inshore and the feeders are following. The weather has also been cooperating for a perfect mix and lots of fishing action. The last week has been exceptional. Limits of kingfish every trip, loads of nice size ling, a few amberjack, grouper and some nice mangrove snappers have been hitting the dock.
Red snapper is currently closed in federal waters and will be open June 1 – August 5. Though snapper are still allowed in Texas state water.
Captain Herschel Reynolds and his First Mate are very excited about this new season. They are preparing to take the Gulf of Mexico by storm. They have the boat in top notch condition and after a long winter they are more than ready to put some blood on the deck! These guys are pumped about getting out and catching some fish. If you are interested in booking a trip for this years’ season it is always a good idea to plan early. Fridays and Saturdays are booking up fast.
The most popular times, such as weekends and holidays, book up fast so start planning and book early if you have preferred dates. Personally, I prefer to book on weekdays whenever possible because there are obviously less people on the water which is a bonus for fishing. As always, if you plan to be in town several days, book your trip early in your vacation plans in case of a bad weather day we may be able to re-schedule your trip.
Another important note this year is that all anglers returning to a Texas port with fish MUST have a current fishing license and saltwater stamp. So, keep it legal, and purchase a fishing license prior to your trip.
With the current high cost of fuel and the uncertainty of what price will be in effect by the end of this season we have found it necessary to inform all potential clients that a surcharge on fuel may become imperative. Rather than just raise our base rates we have decided to share the uncertainty of fuel prices with our customers and hope we will not have to charge more than our current base rates. We will begin charging a fuel surcharge if fuel prices at the Deep Sea Headquarters dock reaches $4.50/gallon.
The surcharge will be payable on the morning of your charter based upon that days fuel rate at the dock pump. The current rate is $4.15/gal (as of 5/20/08).
The surcharge will be as follows:
$4.50/gal = $100
$4.75/gal = $150
$5.00/gal = $200
$5.25/gal = $250
Etc, and will increase in increments of $0.25/gal @ $50.
Fishing in Port Aransas is good year-round, but gets even better as we move further into the summer season. It’s turning on early so it’s a sign of healthy fish stocks and potential hearty catches. Come to Port Aransas and fish with the Ambush team. “Gitcha Some!” is our slogan…so let’s do it together. Hope to see you soon with your fish photo at the rack where we hang your catch at the end of the day.
